The Brand new Gaggia Baby. This is the recently introduced and updated version of the Highly successful Gaggia Baby. In our opinion Gaggia have done a great job with subtle enhancements to styling. This is a brand new colour to the baby range, Ivory. It looks fabulous and we are certain it will blend in with almost any kitchen. The most important thing, of course, is that the new Gaggia Baby makes great coffee.

This coffee maker combines the technology and the attention to detail necessary for making a cup of coffee, perfect every time. But Gaggia Baby does more than just make coffee. It's versatility makes it ideal for heating water for tea and other hot beverages. Froth your own milk for smooth cappuccino and lattes using the special milk steamer/frother.

The whole machine is easy to clean thanks to the detachable components. The 'drip saver' decompression system is designed to stop internal parts getting clogged or dirty.

This is a super espresso machine, the ability to steam milk and instantly produce espresso is a great feature. The controls are super easy, with single and double espresso buttons which came be preset. The single has a pre-infusion which ensures the coffee is damp before extraction. You also have the ability to manually pull an espresso using the m button. The steam nozzle is excellent and produces consistently good milk but you do have to keep the pin sized hole near the top clean to ensure it works well. Overall it works exceptionally well and looks fab on the counter top. A*

This is a good looking and solid machine. Generally the external engineering is well thought out, everything fits well without any of the awkward fiddling or necessary wiggling about of components that I have found on cheaper coffee makers. Apart from the frothing wand, that is - what were Gaggia thinking? It may seem that it only needs a wipe but when I removed the plastic attachment of the wand and went to the nail breaking effort of pulling off the little washers to check the cleanliness within, oh dear. I don't mean just the plastic extension of the wand that is inserted into the milk as this comes off easily, but rather the retainer that this screws onto. It involves removing two tiny plastic/rubber washers and drop these on the floor at your peril, they are tiny - I have no idea how easy it would be to get replacemts for these. This is the only way to be sure the whole plastic section of the wand is free from milk residue. Ick, is all I can say, thick and sticky, brownish residue in abundance. This spoils an otherwise good coffee maker. Since it is not a cheap item and Gaggia are a reputable manufacturer, surely attention to simplicity in maintaining the hygiene of their machine should have been a design feature.
It does make great coffee, good crema and temperature. Although there is improvement, I am still struggling to get a milk froth that isn't like a dry meringue but from everything I have read about the art of milk frothing it is likely that my lack of expertise is to blame rather than the machine.
Lastly, this is not Gaggia's fault but I got my Baby Class via Garraways and although the external packaging for posting was sound, the Gaggia Box had clearly been opened, was battered and ripped in places and resealed with sellotape, presumably by a four year old as it was so messy and looked awful. This has left me wondering if it had been on display or perhaps been returned by a previous buyer. Since it was a lovely gift from my father I have not made a fuss about this but I would think twice about buying from Garraways in future. In fact, I wouldn't think of buying from them at all if they thought it acceptable to foist this upon a mail recipient.
If a good Espresso is your goal, though, the Baby Class is up to the challenge.

The new Baby range is excellent! However, after giving the Baby Twin a test drive I swapped it for a Baby Class D and was much happier. The problem with the Baby Twin is that it does not have 2 boilers; it uses a heating element between the boiler and the steamer to create steam 'instantly'. In reality this is NOT the case. When you open the steam valve water will come out until the element has reached optimum temperature. This means not only do you have to wait between 10-15 secs for steam but you have to keep emptying the drip tray! Once the steam starts being released it has about half the power of the Baby Class D (the same machine but with a single boiler). My Baby Twin experience was not great....Go for the Baby Class D, it's an amazing machine.

I have the baby class D. I`ve used it with very fine ground coffee (from
my own grinder), as well as Gaggia preground. I think it works very well,
if you do as it says in the instruction book, which is don`t tamp hard. If
you do, the coffee gets a strange burnt taste and the crema reduces. Do as
it says and it produces a really good espresso coffee (I am italian by the
way so know what a good espresso tastes like). As for the company, I have
had nothing but helpful friendly people. I did buy a machine that didn`t
work well and they replaced without argument.

I have wasted a lot of money on coffee makers in the past.

However this Gaggia Baby makes one of the best cups of coffee I have tasted.

It feels well machined and solid from the moment you ease it out of the box. It has a large easy to fill water tank, a cup warmer and looks good as well.

The coffee it produces is superb, good crema layer, (from Gaggia beans ground in a Gaggia grinder!)

I release some hot water to warm the cup before making the coffee.

The milk frother is awesome, creating a nice dense but light foam and heating the milk.

The resulting cappuccino is full of flavour and nice and hot.

It takes almost no cleaning, a rinse of the coffee holder and a wipe of the milk krother is all that is required.

I was so worried about spending so much on a coffee machine, but it is worth every single penny!

I have a passion for great espresso, and I'm obsessed with finding a coffee house which serves the perfect double espresso every time. Since moving away from London, this has proved more and more difficult.

I used to work in an Italian restaurant, so I know what is required to prepare an espresso, but if the 'barista' of the day doesn't share that same passion, then the espresso will reflect the fact, much to my disappointment.

I've previously avoided buying a machine of my own, mainly because I've not been confident of investing so much money, only to be disappointed by an inadequate machine. I've even had this very machine demonstrated to me in Whittards, but felt hugely underwhelmed by the results - clearly a passionless assistant.

Nevertheless, I continued to read reviews, applauding this mid-ranged machine. So I decided to take the plunge, and this afternoon, after owning this machine for three days, I have just produced what I would describe as the 'perfect double espresso'.

There are a few simple, but essential, procedures to follow in order to the get the best out of this machine. The instruction booklet is fine, but I come with experience too. If you don't have that passion, and don't want to put the effort in, then buy one of the many pod machine on the market (- I have, however, never had a satisfactory coffee from one of those machines). If you do have the same passion as me, then you may just find this machine will produce an espresso better than most of the cafes in your town.

(Until I can afford a decent grinder, I will continue to use Illy for my perfect espresso).

On returning from holiday skiing in Italy having enjoyed great Italian espresso, latte and cappuccinos, my wife bought me this Gaggia for my birthday. Incredibly generous of her, I had always lusted after a Gaggia.

I was 100% right to.

My wife had done plenty of research into which Gaggia to get me, and the Gaggia Baby Dose Red seemed to consistently raved about. Now it's my turn to.

Really easy to assemble, though having to remove the chrome overflow pipe to remove the tank was tricky (it's screwing it back on that's tricky as you could lose the pipe you have to screw it onto inside - maybe it was a problem with my machine).

Anyway, with minutes, I had it set up, filled with water and switched on. The tank holds loads and is very easy to fill. There's spaced for a few espresso cups and saucers on top to warm, though if you do want them to warm up, and get really hot coffee too, I agree with the other reviewers that you need to leave it on a while to really heat up.

The filter holder is very sturdy, in fact the whole machine is so robust and well put together you can feel the quality. It comes with two filter cups, one and two cup, but you'll probably only use the two cup filter cup.

It is a bit noisy, but I don't care. It's a powerful machine and you get the impression it's very much function over form with this Gaggia. It does whatever it takes to get the best possible cup of coffee.

The espresso is superb. The milk frother takes a bit of getting used to but is really effective, creating a really good frothy cappuccino time after time - you will have to rinse the frother nozzle though after each use. the only criticism is that the nozzle is quite low to the level of your worktop so getting a cup under it can be tricky. Not a real problem though.

Everyone who tastes the coffee that it produces falls in love with it and wants a Gaggia - I reckon we've probably sold 2-3 machines for Gaggia so far. If you're reading this Gaggia, we'd like commission!

Seriously though, if you want a sturdy machine, built to last, that's great looking, but not just for design’s sake, that makes impeccable coffees, this is it.

I went out today and bought my Cubika. After the initial set up and priming of the pump I then tried my first espresso. I'm pleased to report that this product is fantastic at any price. This is my first proper espresso/capuccino machine and for £125 you get a great make and great results, (Gaggia is the most bought espresso machine in Italy) and they know a thing or two about coffee.

The machine weighs in at a solid 5.3Kg, and looks the business in brushed steel. Operation is a doddle and all the parts slot together precisely and easily.
The espresso is produced with superb crema and milk frothing is easy with the 'Turbo frother'.

This is an excellent product and I would advise anybody out there looking to upgrade or invest in an espresso maker to go with the Gaggia.

This is the second Gaggia I’ve had. I thought my little Cubika was great, but the pump was a little unreliable. It produced excellent coffee though.

However, the Gaggia L'Amante just makes it pale into insignificance! The crema is really good on my very hot espresso; the noise from the machine is minimal by comparison to others I’ve had before; and the ease of use – literally flip a switch and away you go. The turbo frother not only works really well getting quite a stiff foam, but I find it really easy to clean.

Only tip is that you really must leave the machine to warm up sufficiently, or you’ll end up with tepid coffee and I can’t stress enough that you really must have good fresh beans too.

All in all really very pleased with the machine – although I am now spending twice the amount on coffee than before as it is so easy to make a really good latte I have at least twice the number!

It’s robust, it works very well, it’s not hugely expensive. What more can I say?

I came back from a holiday in Italy in 2004 and found myself back in miserable, grey Glasgow. I craved an espresso machine to transport me back to the sunshine of Lake Garda, so we went searching. Sadly for us, my wife made me buy a Morphy Richards Roma, which gave us 18 months of, um, unpredictable results.

Present Day. I could stand it no longer, so I decided to shell out on this Gaggia, the machine I really wanted in the first place.

First impressions were slightly disconcerting: it actually feels slightly less substantial, and lighter than the Morphy Richards machine. The drip tray is lightweight plastic, as opposed to the Morphy's heavyweight metal tray. The steam nozzle feels a bit 'shoogly'. There's also less room on top for the cups. And yes, there is one piece of random black plastic in the box that clearly serves no purposes. Still, if you're an afficionado of all things Italian, you take this with a pinch of salt. After all, it does look fantastic on the worktop.

Fire the beast up, wait the requisite 6 minutes for all the bits to heat up, pack it with Illy espresso and simply press the button. Compared to my last machine, this works like a dream...absolutley no mess, no dripping, no scalding water spraying out the sides of the filter holder. And, most importantly, a fantastically rich espresso with the creamiest of cremas. The 'turbo frother' is great too, making the milk really frothy, and getting it nice and hot quickly, unlike Morphy.

To sum up, think of it as the Alfa Romeo of coffee machines: beautifully stylish, great performance, and an impressive heritage. You just have that nagging feeling that a German machine might be put together that little bit better...

well what can i say- this machine is a dream to own and use. Originally i thought it too expensive to buy a gaggia but when i considered how much money i was spending on take away coffees per week then this is an absolute bargain. I bought this machine one month ago and have used it daily ever since. it makes the most delicious cappucinoo which rivals all of the main coffee chain stores offerings. the crema on the top of the espresso it makes is really thick . You can make two espressos at one time or one depending on the size of the filter cup you use. Included is a coffee machine a coffee scoop ., tamper and instruction manual. to use fill the water tank with cold water, let it heat up, fill the coffee filter with coffee, press the button and hot espresso comes out. Heat the milk using the milk frother- all included in the instruction manual!

This is my first espresso machine so I may not be on the best position to comment. But after seeing the prices on other machines -- even other Gaggias -- I know that this one was a real bargain. In fact I bought 3 of them to give as gifts. Everyone loved it but developed their own way of making froth. Mine was to throw away the "special" patented wand and use the end of the pipe. I found that gave the best froth if you learned how to dip and undip it.

I have had 4 different espresso machines, this is the latest and greatest, it is one of my favourite possessions and I think it is absolutely superb. The machine has a classic/traditional look which I love. The Gaggia logo badge finishes the machines look well. I have the polished chrome plated version of this machine. It has big solid illuminated switches which are clearly laid out on the front of the machine.

In using this machine I notice the high quality of the components and the machine overall. The chrome plated solid brass filter holder has a reassuringly heavy feel to it. Being solid brass the components hold the heat very well. There are 2 stainless steel filters to use for different strengths/amounts of espresso. It has a large removable water tank which holds 2.1 litres of water.
This machine has a powerful 15 bar pump with a solenoid valve which makes a truly great espresso with a good thick cremá. You can switch the machine to the steam mode and after a short delay the steam ready light will illuminate. It will then give a powerful amount of steam which steams and froths milk very quickly and gives great results every time for cappuccino or latté. The cup warming tray on top of the machine is useful and easily accommodates 5 espresso cups.

I use the machine several times every day and it performs flawlessly every time. It really is built to last. I have had Krups espresso machine previously which worked fine for about 16 months until some of the plastic parts cracked. All of the parts which receive use on this machine are heavy duty.

I would recommend this machine to anyone wanting the best quality espresso and cappuccino in the home with an equally impressive machine to match.

I have just received this gaggia K111machine as a present (purchased from Amazon), I was desperately hoping it would live up to my expectations.

I am delighted to say that it does. After several attempts I have managed to produce the result I have been looking for in a coffee machine. The steamer was a little tough to start with but a couple of tries later and it's easy as it looks when you see people do it in Starbucks.

As I believe a couple of others have said in reviews of the Gaggia K111 and other similar models; it pays to let the machine warm up before use to avoid a not so hot drink, that's no problem though as this only takes 5 or so minutes.

In brief:

1) Quick and easy to use
2) Great results even on your first attempt
3) Looks great
4) Nice and sturdy
5) I never have to drink rubbish instant coffee ever again.

Buy one, you will not regret it!

I love a good cup of coffee and this thing makes it. I also love gadgets that look stylish in my kitchen and the K111D thing does it! It is pretty simple to use, though I've had bother figuring out how to make decent foaming milk for cappuccino, but through various experiments I'm getting there (I've been surprised to find that skimmed milk seems to work best).

Now actually I don't really drink cappuccino, I'm more an expresso man and this thing really excels at making that. Good coffee is required and it has to be ground right, but assuming that is the case, it's simple to make a really good coffee. I love it.

The only thing that has cost it 5 stars is the instructions which are not really good enough. It's not a translation problem, though the translation is not perfect, more that they have not been written well enough in the first place. There is some of the maintainance that is not entirely clear from the instructions and whilst I found it simple enough to figure out what was needed, I'm an engineer and I'm mindful that others may not be so mechanically minded.

This is a brilliant coffee machine - other machines I have tried do not produce really hot espresso, but this one does. It froths the milk beautifully and I love the silicone pipes that you can see through the water tank. This tank comes out really easily so it's extremely easy to clean. The milk frother gadget is by far the easiest to keep clean of all machines I've had (and I've had a few, believe me). In addition, this is an incredibly sturdy, well built coffee maker. I know it's expensive but the expression 'you get what you pay for' certainly springs to mind here. Don't go for cheaper alternatives - they are not worth it.

f you like good coffee and enjoy the different varieties - ristretto, espresso, latté, cappuccino etc - then look no further than the Gaggia Classic.
The manual simplifies things a bit too much and you are better off looking for those little 'need to know' things to perfect the drink of your choice.
The only other requirement for a good cup of coffee is FRESH BEANS. Ideally find a local coffee roasters and get your beans from there - once you have tried really fresh coffee you will know why it is worth the effort.
If you want to get serious (maybe turn professional Barista!!!) and make fancy patterns in the froth you may need to ditch the turbo-frother and get a different one attachment. However, for sheer simplicity and an easy good looking - and tasting - drink, the supplied attachment will do.

Remember - FRESH BEANS.

Enjoy!!!

I mostly drink espresso, so Im pretty happy with the machine overall, I agree the manual isnt the best, but with a bit of persistence its easy to put together, making a morning coffee has to be quick in my house as i leave pre 7am.

From when you switch the machine on its ready in about a minute, I prefer using my own ground coffee to using the pods, - so then its just a matter of filling the handle up, slotting it in, pressing a button and im done!

Downsides - does drip quite a bit (but as mentioned - it has a decent drip tray for this), and steam pressure isnt fantastic so i havent mastered a latte yet - cappuccino is not problem though, and you cant really expect commercial-quality steam pressure on a domestic machine for this price.

The machine comes with two handles, one for coffee pods, the other for ground coffee, however you cant easily switch between the two options - it involves tipping the machine upside down, and getting your screwdriver out - and this is where the instructions let themselves down a bit.

For the money im very happy, Ive had the machine for about 2 months and use it daily - no trouble whatsoever. i havent had any of the issues other people mention about blockages etc.

Its stylish, it feels solid, and is good quality.

It's amazing reading the other reviews how some people think that it requires too much work or hassle to make a nice cup of latte or cappuccino from this coffee machine! In my experience, the opposite is true. It doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to make a GOOD cup of coffee, and even if you are having a fairly rushed morning, there is almost always time to squeeze in a steaming cuppa. The best thing about this machine is how simple it is to use, once you actually figure out what proportions of espresso and milk you need to make a decent latte. It requires a little practice to get the coffee you like. If you are an espresso fan (which I am not) then there's even less to do. We've had it for 6 months already and it seems to be a reliable machine, no fuss, not much cleaning to do. Descaling it can be a tedious process but thankfully doesn't have to be done that often unless you use the machine VERY often. Looks good, durable, and classy. Definitely a must-have for the postmodern kitchen.

I like coffee and I like gadgets. So an espresso machine is the perfect gift for a guy like me - so I got myself one! Actually I got it less than half price off the Gaggia web site as a recon model. I have had it 7 months now. I make several cups a day. If you use decent coffee the results are fantastic. It did once stop working. I feared the worse. In fact all it needed was a descale. I live in a very hard water area - so it's due for another descale I think. Takes about 30 mins to do this so no great deal. This chrome one is definitely worth the extra if you care about that sort of thing.

So it looks the business and it does the business for a reasonable cost. I think it will last and the guys at Gaggia are enthusiasts. Recommended.
